Social media/social media in Latin America lead consumption, especially among people aged 25 to 34, who primarily use WhatsApp, Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook. WhatsApp leads the region with 90%, followed by YouTube with 86% and Facebook with 85%.

WhatsApp, YouTube, and Facebook are the most used applications on mobile devices in Latin America, according to the IMS Mobile in LatAM study conducted by comScore, Inc. and IMS Internet Media Services (IMS). The top ten list is as follows:

1. WhatsApp 90% 2. YouTube 86% 3. Facebook 85% 4. Google Maps 78% 5. Facebook Messenger 76% 6. Instagram 55% 7. Twitter 50% 8. Skype 48% 9. Pokemon Go, Clash of Clans, and Candy Crush 44% 10. Yahoo 35%

Similarly, it is possible to identify that applications such as Google Maps have a 78% usage rate, placing them in fourth position, followed by Facebook Messenger and Instagram. The second edition of this study reflected, as a key data point, that 9 out of 10 people connected to the internet in Latin America have a smartphone, and it allowed to identify that in Colombia, 93% of Colombians use a mobile device to connect to the internet; where 49% use it exclusively on a smartphone and 41% combine it with their tablet. Additionally, Colombian users have an average of 19 applications on their mobile devices, a number that continues to increase annually, as is the case in the region, which is demonstrated by a growth of 8%. "The IMS Mobile in LatAm study helps to better understand the mobile consumer in Latin America and evaluates the familiarity and importance that apps -including those of our 10 partners- have for Latin American users," said Gastón Taratuta, CEO and Founder of IMS. "It is a true honor for us to reach this position in the market with all the platforms we partner with. This means that we cover the main categories in the digital advertising environment in LatAm, such as geolocation, entertainment, games, and social media." "The study confirms that smartphones are the best device for many consumers, as we see people throughout the region turning to mobile for everything, and that digital media is where consumers spend the most time compared to other platforms such as television, print, or radio. For this reason, we believe that advertisers will move their marketing efforts and resources in the same way," added Marcos Christensen, Senior Director South Cone of comScore Latinoamérica. Currently, IMS has 76% of potential reach of mobile users in Latin America, making it the third most important player in the digital advertising industry immediately after Google and Facebook. This means that there is broad coverage in the regional digital advertising categories, such as geolocation, gaming, entertainment, and social media. But what happens when the IT department is responsible for managing these mobile applications, whether to facilitate their entry into the business environment, to install the required applications, to establish usage restrictions, or to protect corporate information in the event of loss or theft of the mobile device, among other things.
